The African Family free essay sample

The customary African family has confronted numerous tribulations, as it has not stayed static since the start of the Diaspora. It has confronted Resurrection authority which has clouded and mutilated regular societies, which initially joined the African family through a system of solid conventions (Shoved, 2005).Other different outside powers, for example, topography, religion, impact of imperialism, intercontinental relocation, political and financial structures have influenced families in qualities, for example, polygamy, balance f jobs and obligations among guys and females, mediation, and adjustment Of western culture among kids (Sweet, 2000). Ensuing to the slave exchange and acquiring their opportunity, African American families still can't seem to vanquish their fights: they face more prominent deterrents that take steps to release family ties. One of the most discernable qualities of conventional African families has been the presence of polygamy. It has filled in as a premise of African culture, and has altogether affected African social gatherings, clans and tribes (Retreat et al, 2011). Before the spread of Islam and Christianity, an African man, with his various spouses and kids was basically adequate in all cases. The explanation behind this is marriage in the African world is widespread (Shoved, 2005). Each man must wed a lady, leaving no lone wolves or spinsters. Therefore, in contrast to Western culture, the lady of the hour and lucky man didn't have a lot of individual information about their accomplice before subscribing to marriage. To make up for the general more noteworthy number of females and the necessary work for keeping up ranches by means of youngsters, it was normal for one man to have different relationships, albeit every deed to be gone before by romance and assent for marriage (Degree). In the event that a man was to have various spouses, he needed to ensure that preference for a solitary lady or her youngsters was not appeared, on the grounds that it would disturb the general parity of the family and influence the kids mostly.Forwarding to 1 866, with the liberation, the demonstration of polygamy was abrogated by numerous states, and numerous male ex-slaves were constrained to pick one wife (Shoved, 2005). Throughout the years, polygamy includes changed inside the African-American family. Because of the huge conjugal and familial disintegration because of financial matters, families needed to receive substitute endurance techniques and social qualities to guarantee that the work framework didn't decimate their customary lifestyle (Camps, 2009). Among the structure of family, patrimonial social orders were among the most mainstream (Camps, 2009).Although matrilineal social orders existed, patrimonial guaranteed that the man was the leader of the family and was answe rable for accommodating the whole family. Logon the imperialism period, Africans were used widely for wage work, which drove men from their families to work inside urban communities to have the option to manage the cost of assessments. Ladies who were left at home were required to tend to ranches, whose yields were likewise at last devoured by monetary exchange inside the mainland (Retreat et al, 201 1). Because of the detachment of ladies and men, the jobs and duties were accepted by the parent that remained with the kids (Camps, 2009).If men were involved by working far away from home, the lady needed to guarantee that the harvests were suitable enough to be sold. Then again, ladies were additionally influenced by wage work since they needed to partake in labor requests too. Ladies had to disregard their should obligations to work for the Europeans (Shoved, 2005). This prompted a diminishing in development, which represented another issue all alone. Generally speaking, the jobs that were previously satisfied by men were progressively turning into the obligations of ladies too, while they battled to discover a harmony among work and their customary family unit obligations. Before colonization by the Europeans, Africans were intently sew with little social orders having a place with generally unassuming communities and urban areas masterminded into rustic towns that were to a great extent reliant on horticulture. Upon the strengthening of the Europeans and Arabs (for Eastern Africa), assertion spread quickly among these humble communities, going them to urban places for fast financial and strict development (Camps 200). Urban living brought about changes with the inhabitant standards, exercises and occupations, and it changed the manner in which Africans thought, regularly testing their customary convictions and social practices (Shoved, 2005).The gathering of Africans that were influenced the most by the speedy intervention were kids, as they gradually floated away from African culture and received Western conventions, which were instructed to them through instructive establishments that were worked during the spread of religion inside the mainland (Sw eet, 2000). At the point when the slaves showed up into the Americas, they were separated exclusively, and families were deliberately broken with the goal that the possibility of defiance was limited (Achieved, 2005).Marriage among slaves was generally utilized as diversion for the bosses family unit, and was to be finished uniquely at the attentiveness of the slave-proprietor (Shoved, 2005). Preceding the liberation, absence of pre-birth and postnatal consideration, a trademark that as solid inside customary African families, was to be dismissed on the grounds that ladies were allocated to accommodate their lords before their kids. This additionally helped in an expansion in newborn child death rates, which further destabilize African slave families (Sweet, 2000).After the liberation, African slave families were altogether changed, going from being oppressed to self-economical (Camps, 2009). To take into account a smooth change, polygamy was bit by bit ousted and guys were permitted to pick one female to begin a family with. Chapels and preacher schools supported in this exertion and weakened numerous families, also (Sweet, 2000). Regardless of the recently acquired opportunity, the mental impacts of prejudice and viciousness that the Africans needed to confront was as yet engraved into their brains, and this affected the family structure that was presently gradually setting up itself into the American community.Child government assistance frameworks didn't open up to African Americans until the late 1 ninth century (Shoved, 2005). Youngsters younger than 18 were mishandled or ignored in the United States. Thus, numerous young people were found to have degenerate conduct. Additionally because of absence of chance and high paces of joblessness, African-American male populaces were seen as influenced by drugs, violations with ensuing jail sentences, absence of instruction, and higher infection rates (Waiters, 2009). This brought about an expansion in female-headed families in light of the fact that the guys were engrossed with the previously mentioned problems.Despite the deterrents that African families have needed to confront, two attributes that have emphatically persevered over the ages is the significance of youngsters and the nearby ties that Africans have with one another. Family structure was the essential methods f improvement and fitting colonization for the kid (Retreat et al, 201 1). Going back to customary African culture, a man was not viewed as manly until he had posterity to demonstrate it. Youngsters needed to experience inception which included perception of parental ob ligations, direct involvement with the fields and exercises as stories, legends and melodies (Shoved, 2005). This guaranteed a good prosperity of the kid and to guarantee a beneficial life. As referenced above, African relationships were general and were viewed as more open than private, since it included ties between he lady of the hour and the husbands to be families and frequently comprised of the recently marry living with the guardians of the man of the hour (for patrimonial social orders) or the other way around on account of matrilineal ones (Retreat et al, 2011 Even while rehearsing polygamy, a man needed to guarantee than none of his youngsters were preferred over the other, on the grounds that it would affect different kids and occupants of the house negatively.Everything was requested to guarantee that the childhood of kids and the family balance was ideal. During imperialism, when the man had driven away from the family to acquire a living for the family further room home, Africans families and networks helped spouses that were abandoned to help them and to offer good help (Retr eat et al, 2011). Slave proprietors were very much aware of the closeness of the African family; in this way they split them up when promoting them off to likely purchasers (Shoved, 2005).Forwarding to the post liberation period, bunches which joined Africans, for example, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which battled for more prominent monetary chance and social equality for African American families, assisted with uniting African American gatherings ND to join them to battle for a reason (Shoved, 2005). It is human instinct that individuals with comparable interests and basic attributes are bound to meet up and to help each other out when out of luck. Correspondingly, Africans helped each other out when fundamental, and this can be gone back to the conventional African family, far before Europeans or Arab slave merchants even ventured onto the mainland. In this way, the presence of connection securities and a feeling of network have won in spite of the steady battles and dangers to the conventional family. Throughout the years Africans have needed to confront various measures of difficulties which influenced them genuinely, socially, mentally and economically. To this day, every one of these impediments have not been cleared out, yet they have significantly diminished in power. African American families should bear a couple of more ages before they won't be made a decision about dependent on skin shading, or emphasize, or the manner in which they convey themselves; to dispense with a wide range of speculations and cliché decisions. Nonetheless, one can't deny that they have not advanced incredibly with regards to culture, customs and freedom. The dark family is stopped

Blog Archive INSEAD Essay Analysis, 20132014

Blog Archive INSEAD Essay Analysis, 2013â€"2014 INSEAD apparently has not felt the pressure to alter its essay questions or requirements this season, as many U.S. business schools have done. Except for reversing the order of some questions, no changes have really been made to the school’s queries or allotted word counts. The program’s six “motivational essay” prompts are the primary ones, and we will examine those in depth in this analysis, but applicants must also provide two to three shorter “job description essays” that generally require (or allow, depending on your perspective) candidates to provide a fuller picture of their current positions and career progression to date than a resume or CV might provide. We will briefly address these essays first. Job Description Essays Essay 1: Briefly summarise your current (or most recent) job, including the nature of work, major responsibilities, and, where relevant, employees under your supervision, size of budget, clients/products and results achieved. (250 words maximum) Essay 2: Please give a full description of your career since graduating from university. If you were to remain with your present employer, what would be your next step in terms of position? (250 words maximum) Essay 3 (If applicable): If you are currently not working, what are you doing and what do you plan to do until you start the MBA programme? (250 words)   For these essays, we would encourage you to very carefully parse what data the school is requesting in each and then provide all of the relevant facts. For example, the first job essay prompt requires that you outline as many as seven different aspects of your current/most recent position. Make sure not to leave any out just because you would rather write more about others. In addition, take care for all the job description essays to avoid using acronyms or abbreviations that would not be easily recognizable to most, and consider providing some description of your company or industry, if the nature of either might not be readily clear. Using shortcuts (in the form of abbreviations) and skipping this kind of information could make your descriptions less understandable and therefore less compelling and useful to an admissions reader, so you are in fact doing yourself a favor by more completely depicting your situationâ€"while adhering to the maximum word counts, of course. To make your responses to these rather straightforward queries more interesting to the admissions reader, consider framing them in a narrative format rather than simply outlining the basic information. Strive to incorporate a sense of your personality and individuality into your submissions. Motivation Essays Essay 1: Give a candid description of yourself, stressing the personal characteristics you feel to be your strengths and weaknesses and the main factors, which have influenced your personal development, giving examples when necessary. (600 words maximum) Although INSEAD’s request for “main factors which have influenced your development” comes near the end of this essay prompt, we feel you should actually provide this context for your formative experiences before discussing the strengths and weaknesses you derived from them, because showing a clear cause-and-effect relationship between the two is important. The school asks that you offer examples “when necessary,” but your essay will be strongest if you present anecdotes to illustrate and support all your statements. Still, your essay should not end up being a hodgepodge of unconnected anecdotes that reveal strengths. Instead, focus on two or three strengths and one or two weaknesses in the mere 600 words allotted. An important note: be honest about your strengths (do not try to tell the committee what you think it wants to hear; truthfully describe who you legitimately are) and especially about your weaknessesâ€"this is vital. Transparent or disingenuous statements will not fool or convince anyone and will only reveal you to be someone incapable of critical self-evaluation. Essay 2: Describe what you believe to be your two most substantial accomplishments to date (if possible specify one personal and one professional), explaining why you view them as such. (400 words maximum) Do not be intimidated by the minimal word count allotted here for what many would consider a rather significant topic. Writing a complete story on two important accomplishments in just 400 words is definitely possible. First, choose two examplesâ€"ideally, as INSEAD notes, one from your career and one from your personal lifeâ€"that reveal different talents, and develop a succinct narrative that explains how you achieved what you did. Avoid leading with your accomplishment with a statement such as “My greatest accomplishment was when I did X” and simply declaring your conclusion with no anecdotal context. Doing so will kill your reader’s curiosity and remove any incentive he or she might have to read on. Most importantly, do not neglect to explain why you view your two chosen accomplishments as “your most substantial.” This element of the essay can reveal an important angle on your character and personality that will complement the evidence of your skills and motivations pro vided by your examples. Always respond to the school’s entire question/prompt. Essay 3: Describe a situation taken from your personal or professional life where you failed. Discuss what you learned. (400 words maximum) To craft a truly effective and compelling “failure” essay, you must first show reasoned optimism and tremendous momentum toward a goalâ€"a goal that is ultimately derailed. In most cases, you will need to convey that you were emotionally invested in the project/experience, which will help your reader better connect with your story and vicariously experience your disappointment. If you fail to demonstrate that you were emotionally tied to the experience in some wayâ€"perhaps because of pride, a possible resulting promotion or bonus, etc.â€"your reader will have a hard time viewing the incident you describe as a true failure or learning experience. As INSEAD requests, be sure to reflect on the situation and explain what you learned. Trite and clichéd statements about your takeaways are not recommended. For example, everyone gains some level of resiliency from a failure, so you will need to offer something less common and more compelling and personal. Take the time necessary to create a truly unique statement about your road forward and lessons learned, and your payoff will be an essay that is much more self-aware and individualized than thousands of others the admissions committee will see. As we noted earlier, avoid disingenuous statements about your failuresâ€"be sure to take responsibility, rather than shifting the blame! Essay 4:  Please choose one of the following two essay topics: a. Have you ever experienced culture shock? What insights did you gain? (250 words maximum) b. Describe the ways in which a foreigner in your country might experience culture shock. (250 words maximum) INSEAD prides itself on its international focus, and with this essay, the admissions committee clearly wants to get a sense of your cultural sensitivity and international awareness. If you have traveled at allâ€"for business or pleasureâ€"we recommend answering Essay Prompt A, because it will present you within the international sphere. In contrast, Essay Prompt B allows you to demonstrate your domestic knowledge, which is generally less desirable in the classroom, though highlighting aspects of your home country’s culture within the context of how a foreign visitor might perceive them could help demonstrate the diversity you would bring to the school and your ability to relate to others with different backgrounds. For either essay, you must offer anecdotes and try to capture the spirit of human interaction. Simple country facts will bore, whereas placing the reader in the middle of your experience would be quite compelling. Essay 5 a. Discuss your short and long term career goals… (300 words maximum) b. …and how will studying at INSEAD help you achieve your vision? (250 words maximum) This two-part prompt essentially amounts to a request for a personal statement essay, and because personal statements are similar from one application to the next, we have produced the mbaMission Personal Statement Guide, which helps applicants write this style of essay for any school. We offer this guide to candidates free of charge. Please feel free to download your copy today. Essay 6 (Optional): Is there anything that you have not mentioned in your application that you would like the Admissions Committee to know? (350 words maximum) However tempted you might be, this is not the place to paste in a strong essay from another school or to offer a few anecdotes that you were unable to use in any of your other essays. Instead, this is your opportunity, if needed, to address any lingering questions that an admissions officer may have about your candidacy, such as a poor grade or overall GPA, a low GMAT score, a notable lack of international experience, a gap in your work progression, etc. In our mbaMission Optional Statement Guide (available through our online store), we offer detailed advice on when and how to take advantage of the optional essay to help mitigate any problem areas in your profile, and include multiple examples of effective optional essays. How Revolutions Within Europe Over A 500 Year Period

In his book, Charles Tilly seeks to determine the circumstances surrounding revolutions within Europe over a 500-year period. Tilly begins by defining revolution and then presents his hypothesis that revolutions stem from the state’s actions. According to the author, a revolution consists of two parts, each broken into smaller parts of their own: a revolutionary situation and a revolutionary outcome. A revolutionary situation will consist of three qualifiers. First, a group, or coalition of groups, puts forward a claim to control of the state. The group coming forward must have a claim that cannot coexist with the current regime. This qualifier rules out issues between groups such as political parties that are able to coexist with each other under a basic framework for government. Second, a substantial amount of citizens must give the group support. If a group steps forward without support from the citizens then the power for that group to enact change is handicapped. Third, the rulers must be either unable or unwilling to silence the group. The rulers usually face this situation when their military power has weakened or been spread too thin, giving this definition of revolution a realist edge. Revolutionary outcomes consist of four parts. Members of either side defecting to the other would be considered a revolutionary outcome as it would swing state control into the favor of the group receiving the defectors. In addition, either the group coming forward canShow MoreRelatedThe Early Modern Atlantic Economy Edited by J. McCusker and K. Essay about Oil and Texas A Cultural History - 1599 Words

Oil and Texas: A Cultural History Soon the 4-inch drill pipe†¦shot skyward. After the mud, water, and pipe were blown out, gas followed, but only for a short time. Then the well was very quiet. Within a very few minutes, the oil was holding a steady flow at more than twice the height of the derrick†¦Ã¢â‚¬ —A. W. Hamill (one of the drillers at Spindletop) Houston Daily Post Texas tea, black gold, crude,†¦show more content†¦The discovery of oil at Spindletop triggered a flood of speculation in the surrounding areas, which led to several other significant discoveries, including: Sour Lake, Batson and Humble. Because of the excess of oil being found and refined, prices for oil dropped to three cents a barrel—a huge difference from the $107.94 a barrel today (Williams). Texas’ history with oil starts much earlier than the 1901 Spindletop gusher. As early as 1543, there were reports of natural oil seeps along the coast of Texas which was used as both medical treatments and caulking for boats by Spanish explorers (Wooster). In 1866, the first of Texas’ oil producing wells was drilled in Nacogdoches County, however the supply and profit was not high enough to justify further development. In 1895 in Corsicana, Texas there was a minor oil find that led to the creation of Texas’ first oil refinery in Nacogdoches, Texas. Another large oil find is the East Texas Oil Field which spans 140,000 acres and is considered to be the largest oil field in the United States (excluding Alaska); this oil field has produced over 5.2 billion barrels from its 30,340 historic and active oil wells (Smith). No Name Woman By Maxine Hong Kingston, And Leftover Women...

Society has evolved much through time and has never settled; it keeps going as different minds and points of view change its direction. Through history, women have been the epitome of weak compared to men, since history started to be recorded women have claim to suffer from inequality and forced to follow expectations which represent the consequences of the disequilibrium between genders. Although it has become less evident through time, women still suffer from inequality and literature is evidence of it. Three good examples are Nervous Conditions by tsitsi dangarembga, No Name Woman by Maxine Hong Kingston, and Leftover Women: The Resurgence of Gender Inequality in China. In each of these examples, an abused woman is hiding behind her reality but consequently, rebels to seek equality. In Nervous Conditions, Tambu s parents chose to send their male kid to school while she was ignored and forced to work to pay for her education, in No Name Woman Kingston s aunt had an adulterous affai r and, even worse, probably produced a female child from the sexual encounter, and in Leftover Women, the narrator walk the readers through the economic disbalance between genders in China. In the book Nervous conditions, Tambu is a girl determined to seek a better life through education but is surprised by her parent s decision of investing in their male kid only. There is much literature that protests the disadvantages of women living in a biased society that favors men, and this book is a

Edema free essay sample

In most cases edema is due to heart failure, which is a condition in which the heart muscle has been damaged and can no longer pump adequate supply of oxygen to the rest of the body. This will increase the blood pressure which will cause fluid to build up in the lungs. If pulmonary edema continues, it can raise pressure in the pulmonary artery and eventually the right ventricle begins to fail. The right ventricle has a much thinner wall of muscle than does the left side because it is under less pressure to pump blood into the lungs. The increased pressure backs up into the right atrium and then into various parts of your body, where it can cause: Leg swelling (edema), abdominal swelling (ascites), buildup of fluid in the membranes that surround your lungs (pleural effusion), congestion and swelling of the liver. When not treated, acute pulmonary edema can be fatal. We will write a custom essay sample on Edema or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In some cases it may be fatal even if you receive treatment. This term paper will talk about the symptoms and treatment options for pulmonary edema. Pulmonary Edema Pulmonary edema is a condition caused by excess fluid in the lungs. This fluid collects in the numerous air sacs in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe. In most cases, heart problems cause pulmonary edema. Fluid can accumulate for other reasons, including pneumonia, exposure to certain toxins and medications, and exercising or living at high elevations. If a person is diagnosed with pulmonary edema, they should get immediate care right away. Although pulmonary edema can sometimes be fatal, the outlook improves when you receive prompt treatment for pulmonary edema along with treatment for the underlying problem. Treatment for pulmonary edema varies depending on the cause, but generally includes supplemental oxygen and medications. Some of the symptoms for pulmonary Edema are: * Having more shortness of breath than normal when youre physically active. * Difficulty breathing when youre lying flat as opposed to sitting up. * Wheezing. * Awakening at night with a breathless feeling that may be relieved by sitting up. * Rapid weight gain when pulmonary edema develops as a result of congestive heart failure, a condition in which your heart pumps too little blood to meet your bodys needs. The weight gain is from buildup of fluid in your body, especially in your legs. * Swelling in your legs and ankles. * Loss of appetite. * Fatigue. Cardiac pulmonary edema also known as congestive heart failure occurs when the diseased or overworked left ventricle isnt able to pump out enough of the blood it receives from your lungs. As a result, pressure increases inside the left atrium and then in the veins and capillaries in your lungs, causing fluid to be pushed through the capillary walls into the air sacs. Congestive heart failure can also occur when the right ventricle is unable to overcome increased pressure in the pulmonary artery, which usually results from left heart failure, chronic lung disease or high blood pressure in the pulmonary artery (pulmonary hypertension). Pulmonary edema can come from lung infections, such as pneumonia, the edema occurs only in the part of your lung thats swollen. Kidney disease plays a major factor. When your kidneys cant remove waste effectively, excess fluid can build up, causing verload pulmonary edema. Treatment for Pulmonary Edema: * Wear support stockings. These stockings, which can be purchased at most drug stores, put pressure on your legs and keep fluids from collecting in your legs and ankles. * Do not sit or stand for long periods of time without moving. * Ask your doctor about limiting your salt intake. * Your doctor might want you to take a water pill which helps rid your body of excess fluid through your urine. * Protect any swollen areas from additional pressure, injury, and extreme temperatures.

Thomson Defense of Abortion free essay sample

In this paper I will discuss the relevance of J. J. Thomson’s argument in her article, A Defense of Abortion, to that of pregnancy reduction and if there is any relevance, if there are exceptions or situations where that might change. J. J. Thomson’s argument in A Defense of Abortion is that the one thing a person has rights to is his/her body and the right to control what happens with it. Thomson also states that there is an innate desire and need for self-preservation that we all have that must additionally be considered. To support her argument, Thomson uses the example of a violinist where an unconscious violinist would only stay alive if you were constantly attached to him to compensate for his fatal kidney ailment. She states, â€Å"If he is unplugged from you now, he will die: but in nine months he will have recovered from his ailment, and can safely be unplugged from you†. We will write a custom essay sample on Thomson Defense of Abortion or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Her premise is that a person’s right to life does not include the right to use another person’s body and so by unplugging the violinist you do not violate his right to life or deprive him of the use of your body – to which he has no right. Another example Thomson uses to make her argument is that opponents use that abortion is â€Å"directly killing a child† therefore killing an innocent person is morally wrong however, â€Å"letting a person die† as in the case of the mother’s life being at risk would not be directly killing them. Thomson supports that this does not give the mother’s life the same status as the unborn child’s life and ignores her natural tendency for self-preservation. In the article The Two Minus One Pregnancy, pregnancy reduction is explained as having a multiple child pregnancy reduced at least one child, meaning they actually decide to kill one of the babies while still in the mothers stomach, whether that be for health or other reasons. J. J. Thompson’s arguments can all be applied to the discussion of pregnancy reduction since they could all be from the same situations as a single pregnancy. Whether the pregnancy was by choice or not the argument of Thompson’s that an individual has sole rights to their body and no person or group should assert that they have more right over another person than that person has over their self. In pregnancy reduction the same arguments that Thomson uses would apply especially concerning her example of finding yourself trapped in a tiny house with a growing child in it and that you would be crushed to death but the child would not be crushed to death if allowed to continue growing. She concludes that it would not be a bystander’s decision to decide who lives or dies but that you have the right to attack to save your own life. This is pertinent because pregnancy reduction requires a medical procedure, therefore involves a third party, a bystander, that you are asking to help you in your own self defense and because multiple pregnancy is most often a higher risk to the mother as well as the child. She states that both parties are innocent here and â€Å"the person threatened† can interfere even if it requires a third party to assist her. What a third party might do in response to a woman’s request for an abortion could vary and they have that right however no third party should stop a woman from defending â€Å"her life against the threat to it posed by the unborn child even if doing so involves its death. Thomson goes on to say that the mother has more rights than the child because the â€Å"mother owns the house† and therefore more rights than a renter. One difference that would be the most obvious is that it seems highly unlikely that a person would seek an abortion if they went through the time and expense of attempting to become pregnant by means of artificial insemination or other means of medically intentionally becoming pregnant. Even with this significant difference, it could be argued that a person might desire to not have more than one child at a time even though they â€Å"intentionally† got pregnant. Therefore, Thompson’s arguments still apply in these cases. There is no difference morally on abortion of a singleton pregnancy or a multiple pregnancy that would apply with Thomson’s arguments because those that supported the belief that any abortion was killing would use the same argument for â€Å"killing† one fetus and keeping one. Additionally, those that supported the woman’s right to make decisions about her own body or health would still use those claims in a woman’s right to choose whether or not she had the right to a pregnancy reduction. In conclusion, Thomson’s argument, in A Defense of Abortion, that the one thing a person has rights to is his or her body and the right to control what happens with it and to fight for self-preservation would not change at all if those same arguments were applied to a pregnancy reduction situation.

The Black Sheep Brewery should be aware of the laws where they are marketing.3c EconomicPaliwoda suggests that "Macro-environment is created when trade and transactions take place across, rather than within, national frontiers; but it is important to note that there may well be greater economic environmental differences between different parts of the same country than between countries belonging to the same geographical region." in his book, "International Marketing". This means a single country may have different economic level. For an example, in some rural part of China is suffering from poverty, whereas in some parts of China, such as Hong Kong is to be con sidered as one of the richest cities in East Asia. Other factors to be aware of are, currencies used, where some countries may have weak currencies due to inflation or recession, also the kind if payment, some countries such as Columbia may pay by coffee beans. Secondly, the general economy, which can be determine by the average income of the public.3d PoliticalPolitics is a very important factor, it can either bring trading partners together or tear them apart. Government policies and attitudes towards imports are different around the globe. Some may set up trade barriers such as high tariffs, high import tax, in order to protect their own brands/ economy, or due to some tensions between countries. On the other hand, some may lower the import restrictions by setting up trade agreements between countries to minimise trade tariffs in bilateral trade exchanges, or to create job opportunities for their public. The Black Sheep Brewery should also be aware of the stability of the host co untry's regimes, also the level of government control of company assets.3e TechnologicalThis factor concerns the technological level of a country, such as the existing facilities and infrastructure; some countries may be more "high tech" than the others. Also the labour skills and training, some countries may have highly skilled labours, some may not. There may be a huge cost of new technology; also some government policies such as green issues may limit the use of some technologies.3f CompetitorsSince The Black Sheep Brewery is not the only company around the globe that supply beer there are various alternatives for consumers to choose from. Competitors such as Budweiser and Stella may have taken at least 90% of the consumers in some countries. Marketers should consider whether it is worthwhile to enter such countries. In marketing audit, SWOT analysis suggests that companies should minimise their weaknesses/ threats, and turn them into companies' strengths/ opportunities. When ente ring new country markets, there are weaknesses/ threats exist within and outside the company. These are the lacking of time, lacking of internal/ external knowledge and risks of competitors. By using methods of entry such as acquisition or merger can often minimise the weaknesses/ threats and turn them into possible strengths/ opportunities within and outside the company.

Cooking Is Something That Many People D Essay Example for Free

Cooking Is Something That Many People D Essay Cooking is something that many people do. Some do it as a profession, some do it for fun, and some do it because they have to. Most people cook because eating anything raw is unappetizing and boring. I cook because it is entertaining and almost hypnotizing in a sense that I become almost oblivious to my surroundings. Sadly, some times I share the feeling of most people, ? gwhy o why do I have bother to do this. ?h But even if preparing a dish for themselves, people tend to get caught up and forget about anything else that is going on. When other people are the ones who will be enjoying the dish, the cook tends to have a feeling of wanting to make them astounded or awed at his or her culinary skills by preparing a better dining experience. It is a constant struggle for perfection and creativity. In the professional environment of cooking, the atmosphere is exigent. It is a fast moving and demanding environment. When working in such a place, one is soon to forget the time that is passing. As the product of the chef is taking shape, it looks more and more like a piece of art, with an amazing array of colour topped with astonishing garnishes. Chefs are people endlessly exploring the continual horizon of creativity in which the food can spread in any direction of space atop a plate. Another great part of cooking is the faces, comments, and reactions of the diners. Their faces are filled with the expression that speaks the flavour of the food and the opinion of the people themselves. A picture is worth a thousand words. I always remember that phrase when the food is served in front of the diner. And after that they speak. Their words persuade and encourage you for a higher level of achievement. Well at least most of the time. These are the reasons why culinary arts is an amazing field for anyone.

John Dewey Essay example -- American Philosopher Philosophy

John Dewey was one of the greatest minds in history. A philosopher, his concern was democracy and its ideals. A thinker about the problems in education. A prominent voice in America, commanding the admiration of those who agreed with his views, and respect for his mind even from those who did not. The man: John Dewey, an American philosopher. Dewey’s pedagogy was one with three distinctive traits: it was democratic in that it called for pluralism. It was a follower of the scientific method in that it was a systemic approach at solving problems and forming judgments, both practical and moral. It prized directed experience as an ongoing process of means as ends and ends as means. These three traits of Dewey’s philosophy are tied to all that he wrote and thought. Dewey felt that democracy was the ideal social structure, the one best suited to the needs and aims of all people; under no other political scheme was it possible for general citizens to have allowance and responsibility to grow individually and culturally. All other systems hindered personal and social growth in Dewey’s scheme. Any form of despotic state used fear to such an extent that it became one of the only factors that kept the state in union, and the other factors that would naturally cause people to work together in their social environments were perverted and wasted. â€Å"Instead of operating on their own account they are reduced to mere servants of attaining pleasure and avoiding pain† (DE, 84). The cultural paralysis was seen in the fact that â€Å"there is no free play back and forth among the members of the social group. Stimulation and response are exceedingly one-sided.† Both the rich and poor suffer: the poor in that they have little involvement in the courses taken in their lives; the rich in that their â€Å"culture becomes sterile† (DE, 84). Dewey asserted that â€Å"democracy has always been allied with humanism, with faith in the potentials of human nature† and that â€Å"democracy means the belief that humanistic culture should prevail.† He advised that democracy is not something that will necessarily happen if â€Å"human nature is left to itself, when freed from external arbitrary restriction† (FC, 97). Democracy, for Dewey, was a moral issue that required efforts born in democratic vision. Democracy was Dewey’s tool of progress. But Dewey also saw that democracy did not guarantee progress. The imper... ...nt. Otherwise facts gained only have the potential to gain meaning, and many facts will turn out to be disconnected, never finding their place in a person’s experience. Facts grow naturally out of meaningful experience, but meaningful experience which leads to more facts do not necessarily flow from facts. Dewey wrote that â€Å"the tragic weakness of the present school is that it endeavors to prepare future members of the social order in a medium in which the conditions of the social spirit are eminently wanting† (SSCC, 15). The conditions wanting were democracy, rational judgment conducive of the scientific method, and a conception of experience that recognizes the continuous nature of ends as means of further action. What Dewey wanted was ideal, but it was not utopian. He knew that we should do better, that we could do better. The question was more whether there was a will to do better. Affirmative Action Essay

What would the business world be like with no affirmative action? One can only imagine the discrimination that would be going on. This is why our company needs to take action towards taking the right steps to implementing this very important concept. Not only must we follow equal employment opportunity laws, but we must ensure the comfort, security, and safety of our employees. No person regardless of age, race, color, religion, disability, or sex be denied of employment based on those factors. With the implementation of the affirmative action policy taking affect within our company, we can expand our family of employees to a much more diverse workforce. We will gain a plethora of knowledge from those with all different types of prior work experiences. Our actions will lead to unity and harmony between those who are of different national origins, and will help eliminate discrimination on the job. It is incredibly important for those we employ to know we take pride in our company and care about their opinions, concerns, and well-being. Happy and well taken care of employees, make for enthusiastic and productive employees! The idea is to hire people based on their experience, knowledge of the occupation, education, and whatever skills they may encompass. It is important for employees to know some of the basic skills required for the job; however, on the job training is an excellent opportunity for growth and learning new techniques. Affirmative action allows for room for advancement to those with seniority within the company, as well as room to hire more new employees to fill their old positions. By enforcing affirmative action we are creating job security which encourages employees to strive to constantly improve and create goals within the company which benefits everyone involved. Affirmative Action3 As positive as affirmative action can be, there can also be negative results of this concept. In some cases, one protected class may be considered as favored by employers, while others feel they have been prejudged which has become known as reverse discrimination. Because of any one group being favored, the possibilities of conflict occurring in the work place could rise; for this reason, it is extremely important to apply and use the concept of affirmative action the way it was meant to be used. Each and every individual must be treated fairly, and situations will be dealt with according to the position they hold within the company. Equally as wrong as preferential treatment are those companies who sometimes are either forced or volunteer for affirmative action; they are only trying to fill their quota to meet requirements, which also eventually leads to more discrimination. As long as we take all of the appropriate steps to work this into our workforce and are doing it for all of the right reasons, we will have a successful multicultural corporation who can work together peacefully. The reason this policy would benefit our company is mainly because we are being given the opportunity to fix past instances of discrimination which have occurred within our establishments. We have the chance to start with a clean slate, and be known as an inviting and stable place to work. By implementing affirmative action we can ensure to our employees that they will enjoy working for us. By knowing what to expect every day they will be happier, loyal, enthusiastic, supportive, and eager to come back. They will gain an appreciation for the company which treats them with respect and equal to their coworkers. The positive possibilities are endless as long as everyone is compliant with the policy. There will be an individual to monitor and make sure all policy regulations are being followed and cooperated with, as well as an Affirmative Action  informative document which explains all details. We will encourage all to be involved in programs or groups which will lead to meeting goals related to the policy. And last but not least, there will be a mandatory meeting to ensure that everyone is fully aware of the changes to come and that any  further instances of discrimination in the workplace will not be tolerated. With that said, we look forward to the new cultural diversity we will have within our company and expect many good things to come from it! Affirmative Action5 Reference Page Bohlander, G. Feminism in both Hamlet and Lady Oracle Essay

The literary works, Hamlet and Lady Oracle, chart both the life’s course of their main characters and underline the protagonist’s trajectory in some decisive moments of their existence, when both of them, Hamlet and Joan Foster, need to take some decisions which may change their destinies. In this brief essay I will try to point out similarities and differences between these two stories taking into consideration a feminist approach. First and foremost I would like to mention what do I mean by feminist approach and how do I intend to apply it to my essay. Feminism is a political discourse aimed at equal rights and legal protection for women. It involves various movements, theories and philosophies, all concerned with issues of gender†¦show more content†¦In Hamlet the story takes place in a historical past after some important events which take place around the year 1600 in the final years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, who had been the monarch of England fo r more than forty years and was then in her late sixties. The play, set in Denmark, recounts how Prince Hamlet exacts revenge on his uncle Claudius, who has murdered Hamlets father, the King, and then taken the throne and married Gertrude, Hamlets mother. The play vividly charts the course of real and feigned madness—from overwhelming grief to seething rage—and explores themes of treachery, revenge, incest, and moral corruption. On the other hand, there is Lady Oracle. This novel has been written during the second-wave of feminist movement; second-wave feminism refers to the period of activity in the early 1960s and lasting through the late 1980s. This feminist-wave movement saw womens cultural and political inequalities as inextricably linked and encouraged women to understand aspects of their personal lives as deeply politicized and as reflecting sexist power structures. Atwoods novel is a post-modern novel written in 1976, whose heroine, Joan Foster, is a woman who h as faked her own death in order to escape the difficulties created by her compulsive creation of multiple personalities for herself. The
